Gizmo Project 1.3.0.142 - Freie Internet-Telefonie

Gizmo ist ein Programm, das Gesprächsverbindungen zu anderen Anwendern oder eben auch zu Festnetztelefonen aufbauen kann. Obgleich Gizmo prinzipiell jenem Skype ähnelt, wurden hier einige sinnvolle Funktionen ergänzt. Ein Telefonat zu anderen Nutzern kostet nichts, wogegen für einen Anruf in das dt. Festnetz 2,9 Cent/Min. anfallen. Die siebzehn aktiven Programmierer haben nicht nur auf eine exzellente Tonqualität wert gelegt, auch Übersichtlichkeit und Konfigurationsvielfalt war eines der wichtigsten Dinge. Ein so genannter Call Quality Assitant ist imstande, die aktuelle Bandbreite auszulesen. Wenn Sie Angaben zu Ihrem Land und Ihrem Wohnort machen, kann der andere Gesprächsteilnehmer Ihren Standort auf einer kleinen, integrierten Landkarte ausfindig machen.


Vom cleveren, schicken und übersichtlichen Aussehen einmal abgesehen, steht Gizmo Project für die Betriebssysteme Windows, Mac und Linux zum Download bereit. Die Software basiert auf dem SIP-Protokoll, weswegen es auch Verbindungen zu SIP-fähigen Telefonen herstellen kann. Abschließend betrachtet stellt Gizmo eine abwechslungsreiche, funktional größere und unter vielen Systemen einsetzbare Alternative zum betagten Skype dar.

Die Funktionen im Überblick:

• Nebengeräusche - Fügen Sie Ihren Gesprächen Nebengeräusche hinzu. Machen Sie die Wähltasten am Ende des Fensters sichtbar und drücken Sie während des Gesprächs eine der Schaltflächen am rechten Rand. Sie können sogar andere oder Ihre eigenen Geräusche im Optionsdialog auswählen.
• Tonqualität - Um die Tonqualität einzusehen, klicken Sie auf Call Quality Assitant. Anschließend wird die Bandbreite angezeigt.
• Online-Status, in Farben angezeigt - Grün: Online, Rot: Abwesend/Nicht stören, Orange: Nicht aktiv, Blau: Am Telefon, Grau: Unsichtbar/Offline
• Online-Status - Zeigt den aktuellen Status all Ihrer verzeichneten Kontakte an.
• Anzeige des Standorts - Klicken Sie auf Map it, um eine Landkarte mit dem Standort eines Kontakts anzuzeigen.
• Favoriten - Personen, die Sie des Öfteren anrufen, können in ein Favoriten-Verzeichnis eingetragen werden.
• Betreff - Die Person, die Sie anrufen, bekommt den von Ihnen gegebenenfalls festgelegten Betreff des Telefonats angezeigt.
• Mitschnitt - Gizmo erlaubt es, jedes geführtes Gespräch aufzuzeichnen und im Nachhinein anzuhören. Das Einzige, was Sie tun müssen, ist, auf eine Schaltfläche zu klicken.
• Um einen Freund oder Bekannten, der ebenfalls bei Gizmo registriert ist, anzurufen, müssen Sie lediglich den Benutzernamen oder die Telefonnummer eingeben. Gespräche zu einem Nutzer von Gizmo sind jederzeit kostenlos, während Verbindungen zu gewöhnlichen Anschluss gegen eine minütliche Gebühr aufgebaut werden können.
