Normalerweise bringt man mit dem Begriff Peer-to-Peer das Herunterladen von Daten aus Filesharing-Netzwerken in Verbindung. Doch das muss man nicht, denn diese Technik kann man auch für andere Dinge verwenden, wie beispielsweise für das Telefonieren übers Internet.

Die Entwickler des bekannten Filesharing-Tools Kazaa haben jetzt eine neue Version ihres Internet-Telefonie-Programms namens Skype zum Download bereitgestellt. Mit diesem Klienten ist es möglich, via Peer-to-Peer mit einem registrierten Anwender kostenlos zu telefonieren. Die Bedienung ist dabei kinderleicht und erinnert stark an die eines Instant-Messengers.
